Jim Flanigan

Jim Flanigan came to New York in 1924 from Bartra, Lahinch.  He married Jane Whyte from Islandbawn, Lahinch.  He worked in all sorts of jobs, finally working in a grocery warehouse where he and other immigrants founded the Grocery Warehousemen's union which later became part of the Teamsters Union.

His son Jim (James Flanigan) became a journalist and contributed an article for the 100th Anniversary of the County Clare Association in New York.

He married Anne Fitzmaurice of Ballyhaunis and has been a regular visitor to Ireland.

He has contributed on a wide variety of subjects including Ireland's economy, business and education system to the Los Angeles Times, New York Times and Forbes Business Magazine.
